History:
I created this painting in my "early Buddhist phase", when I was a member of a Kagyu Buddhist Centre in Greece, led by ex - drug dealer Ole Nydahl, who convinced us all that he had become a... Saint! (Several thousand Buddhists today still believe him!) So, I became a mindless new devotee of this "Nydahl Buddhist Sect", for seven years, till a very unpleasant event drove me out of it: -I was beaten up very badly, by three Ole devotees who hated my opposition to the increasing corruption and extremism, inside their sect. It took me several weeks to recover; so I missed a "once in a lifetime" offer by Professor Cliff Jones (Manchester University) for an M.Sc. Postgrad Diploma without a first degree, doing research in (an early draft of ) "Multiple Form Logic". |

Semantics: This painting depicts my own understanding of "Rebirth", together with some physical laws (death being "as if entering a Black Hole"; rebirth being "as if coming out of a White Hole", etc...) The painting includes elements of Earth, Water, Wind and Fire; indispensable ideas for anyone delving seriously in Tiberan Buddhist Dharma. Inside the painting, you can see several "little souls" or beings (like fishes) sucked into a cosmic sphere with a singularity that transfers them to the Other Side: -A fresh new tree spreading out branches. Now, I don't really know precisely how Physics is related to such wild metaphysical speculation, but some Physicists apparently do believe in some Buddhist ideas about Death and Rebirth, claiming that "serious scientific foundations" exist for them.... |
