History:
I painted this during the earliest phase of living (again) in Greece, returning from my first six years in London. At time, I was contemplaing the logic theory in George Spencer-Brown's fascinating book "Laws of Form", and began to devise ways of extending it, such as a Three Truth-value Logic System, where instead of truth value "1" there are two alternarives: A "left-handed 1" and a "right-handed 1", corresponding to a (vague) idea of... 2 parallel universes, where, in the "left-handed universe", time flows backwards! These early attempts to extend "Laws of Form" led to "Multiple Form Logic", which has an unlimited number of truth-values. Nevertheless, this painting is much more mystical and emotional than... logical! |

Semantics: This painting depicts important aspects of the human psyche, probably only applicable to our very specific western culture (and current historical condition). There are multiple selves (or "archetypes") "living inside" this painting: On the floor of the "room" one self is waving (for help?) to an "external observer-self" who is looking into the inside of the "ego-room", while being exiled into the outside (world). However, Reality(tm) is reflected into a Parallel Universe (probably of anti-matter), where time is different, either with a time-lag, or else (if interpreted dynamically) flowing backwards. Also, another self, (Rodin's "Thinker") is behind the Mirror. Finally, the room's grey colour shows the dulness of "encapsulation by an ego" cut-off from True Life, inside the "True Outside World" (i.e. the blue sky and the mountain-top outside). |
