George A. Stathis:
"The Astral Visitor"

History:

I painted this during the earliest phase of living (again) in Greece, returning from a (rather freaked-out) London. I was seekling Peace of Mind, and needed a feeling of "Suchness in the Universe", at the time...

The painting was also originally a collage: -A very thin self-adhesive sheet with a glossy mirror-surface, was cut and glued onto the human figure. In later years, this self-adhesive mirror-material wore off, and I removed it. So the painting now exists without it, and with a dark, instead of a mirror-like human, in the middle.
   Hmm....

I need to find a similar mirror-material, to restore the painting's original appearance!

Semantics:

This painting depicts a human figure in the "Astral Plane", known to mystics throughout the ages. Some influence from the film "Encounters of the third kind" is also possible (but not conscious!)...

When I started painting again in Greece (after a  suitcase full of paintings and drawings -previously done in London- was stolen), I wanted to work on simple themes; as simple as possible, but full of Positive Energy. The purpose of these early paintings was self-induced meditation: I had also become a Buddhist meditator, so that my paintings were aligned with meditative activities.

Nevertheless, the blue colour in the painting was consciously inspired (also) by Wilhelm Reich's theories about the colour of "Orgone Energy".
