George A. Stathis:
"The Mad Whale's Sunset"

History:

I painted this... frivolous masterpiece ;) during the phase of  living  in Greece, just before going back to the UK (to study Computer Science, this time).
The painting is also a collage:
After it was done (with acrylics on canvas),  a postcard depicting a sunset (in a Greek island) was pasted onto it! Ah well, this was my easy lazy way, of achieving the desired result, without.... bothering to actually paint a sunset from scratch! :)
I was actually tired of painting, at the time. And I had already started toying around with early home computers, as well as preparing to go back to the UK for studying computer science. So... why on earth should I paint a real sunset?;)

The Mad Whale's Sunset
Semantics:

This painting depicts a whale who acquired a (rather frivolous) form of  "whale psychosis",
symbolised by the crazy umbrella on the right, used for... fishing purposes, as well as the... horny tree, grown on the head of the whale, bearing roundish red fruits. The whale is also fantasizing itself to be a... yellow submarine, and living in the... sky above the sea, instead of a lifetime below the sea, which was (most  probably) boring for the whale, and may have even contributed to the whale's psychosis! :)

Ah well,. call me insane, if you like, but I
did imagine that whales (being very intelligent gentle creatures, most of them) can also get insane, from time to time (depending on what their notion of "insanity" means to them)! :-)

Acrylics and other materials on canvas (40x30 cm)
