George A. Stathis:
"Animus"

History:

I created this painting under the influence of Carl Jung's ideas about the latent soul of women and men; women's latent soul, in particular, called "animus", who is a male.

Animus is a hidden element of the female psyche, which is an Inner Archetypal Image of the outer male presence; an archetype that also represents a woman's desirable male (spiritual or sexual) companion.

The painting was also influenced by some personal relationships with certain rare women who had a deep spiritual aspect in their being; some of them also leaving strong impressions in my art, as a result.

NOTE:
This painting was unfortunately... never finished! If  it had been finished, it would have a much finer grain of detail.

Laws of Form
Semantics:

Through the door, a lock appears in Heaven and two possible keys can unlock it, corresponding to
the two black cats on the left and right; sacred symbols of the Female Psyche, also influenced by Taoist ideas about Yin and Yang. (I was trying to depict the "shadow selves" of the female psyche through these cats). Hm... Later on, I wondered why I painted them black: Probably, because this colour was in... appropriately strong contrast with the light-blue/white auras (of these cats)! :-)

Finally, the phallic presence on top of the head of Animus, is in tune with Carl Jung's idea that the Animus is male (just like for a man, the "Anima" is female: an Inner Image of the Archetypal Female).
Today, I usually don't think in this highly symbolic way. However, Carl Jung's ideas about  Inner Images in the Psyche, are also consistent with the Third Axiom of Multiple Form Logic, a Logic Theory that began at around the same time as when these paintings were being created.
